Lauren Soherr

Lauren Soherr was one of our 8th Grade Student Observers at ISEF a few years ago.  They credit her experiences with Research Challenge and ISEF with boosting her confidence and focus and bolstering her desire to see & experience the world. Lauren is now studying in China at United World College and doing amazingly well. Loving life, loving learning, loving becoming a citizen of the world!  Lauren has been at an international United World College site for the past 3 years.  She'll do great things no matter what she chooses to do!

Learning Lab

The Educator Professional Development Workshops & Online Courses offered via the UNM STEM-H Center/Kupono Learning Lab provide educators with opportunities to engage in face to face and/or self-paced online professional development training including Research Challenge/Science Fair Bootcamp, Project Management for STEM-H Educators, Safety & Ethics in Student Research, and our newest modules under the JSHS Training Modules. All training is currently FREE of charge for any teacher (& student) from anywhere!

Junior Science And Humanities Symposium

The UNM STEM-H Center manages the SW Region Junior Science & Humanities Symposium (JSHS). The Junior Science & Humanities Symposium is a national competition program designed to challenge and engage students in grades 9-12 in science, technology, engineering, and/or mathematics (STEM). Individual students compete for scholarships and recognition by presenting the results of their original research efforts orally before a panel of judges and an audience of their peers.

Central NM Regional Science Olympiad

Central NM Regional Science Olympiad tournament is a rigorous academic interscholastic competition that consists of a series of individual and team events, for which students prepare during the year. These challenging and motivational events are well balanced between the various disciplines of biology/life sciences, earth science, chemistry, physics, engineering, computers and technology. There is also a balance between events requiring knowledge of science facts, concepts, processes, skills and hands on applications.

"It’s a fact that underrepresented professionals who work in STEM fields enjoy significant opportunities to engage in new discoveries and innovations on a global scale. INSIGHT Into Diversity created the Inspiring Programs in STEM Award to recognize colleges, universities, and organizations that are doing their part to improve access to STEM fields for students from underrepresented groups through programming.
